CHICO — Chico scheduled camp evictions and shelter assessments beginning Feb. 12 to 27 people counted by the city in parts of lower Bidwell Park and near Teichert Ponds.

Chico issued a notice Monday to Legal Services of Northern California about its intention to enforce anti-camping ordinances following the Warren v. Chico settlement agreement.

Twelve people at lower Bidwell Park from Annie’s Glen to the Chico Creek Nature Center were included in Chico’s notice; two were cited as being previously assessed for shelter.

Fifteen people along a pathway near Teichert Ponds, accessible beneath Highway 99, were also included; 10 were cited as previously assessed.

Available shelter spaces include 25 beds in the men’s dorm, seven beds in the women’s and four beds in the gender-neutral dorm at Torres Community Shelter; and six Pallet shelters available at the  Genesis Emergency Housing Site.

Chico argued the 12 people previously assessed for shelter should not be included in its minimum required count for available shelter spaces.
