The Pleasant Valley boys soccer team’s run in the CIF NorCal Division III playoffs came to an end Thursday when the No. 4 seeded Vikings lost 4-1 to the No. 1 seed Newark Memorial in Newark.
The Vikings (16-5-3) won their first round game with a late goal by Austin O’Neal, but fell short Thursday.
Ibrahim Ahmed scored two goals for Newark, and Jose Gomez and Noel Cabrales scored one goal each. Newark goalkeeper Eriberto Bermudez made eight saves.

Newark Memorial (23-1-3) advances to the CIF NorCal D-III championship where it will host No. 6 Cardinal Newman (24-2-2) at 5 p.m. Saturday. Cardinal Newman upset No. 2 Ukiah 1-0 Thursday.
College men’s basketball
Chico State 84, Cal Poly Humboldt 77: Chico State finished its regular season with a win in Arcata, and with the win the Wildcats (20-7, 15-7 California Collegiate Athletic Association) gave head coach Greg Clink his ninth 20-win season.
Evan Oliver led Chico with 15 points off the bench, Miles Daniels scored 14, Joshua Hamilton had 11, Adam Afifi had 11, and Caden Harris had 10. Isaiah Kerr had a team-high five rebounds and three assists.
With the regular season concluded, Chico State enters the CCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Wildcats will play No. 5 Cal State East Bay at 8 p.m. March 7, with the winner to face No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino at 8 p.m. March 8.
College women’s basketball
Chico State 77, Cal Poly Humboldt 59: Chico State eclipsed the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2012-13 season with its win in the regular season finale in Arcata. It is the third time Chico State head coach Brian Fogel has reached 20 wins in his 16 years as head coach.
Jordan Allred led the Wildcats (20-8, 16-6 CCAA) with 14 points, Jadence Clifton and Brandy Huffhines had 12 points each, and Zhane Duckett and Morgan Mathis had 11 points each. Allred and Clifton had seven rebounds each, and Huffhines had fie rebounds. Makenzi Laporte had a team-high five assists.
With the win, Chico State secured the No. 2 spot in the CCAA tournament, which begins March 7 at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino. As the No. 2 seed, the Wildcats earned a first-round bye, and will face the winner of No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 6 Sonoma State on March 8 at noon.
