CHICO — California vintage rock band Barrel Aged began with Aaron Mathrole (rhythm guitar) and Mark Walker (drums). “Mark and I used to play in his gym basically every Wednesday,” Mathrole said. “We would just practice and invite folks in to play, and some people stuck and some people came and went.”

Mathrole’s brother, Rob Mathrole is the lead singer and guitarist. Rob Mathrole explained that their song for E-R Sessions has “kind of an ironic title called ‘AM Radio’ ’cause obviously the song doesn’t sound like AM radio hits.” He explained that the song is about the way AM radio sounds today and the way it sounded in the ’70s when it played rock music.

Walker added that, though they were able to accommodate E-R Sessions with a mainly acoustic version of their song, they are not an acoustic band.

Barrel Aged eventually acquired long-time musician Chris Pollok on bass. The band played several shows in the Chico area ever since.

On May 2, the band will headline for a first responders recognition event at Secret Trail Brewing Company. Also playing the event will be Yurkovic.
