WILLOWS — Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an Orland man with a Colusa County warrant on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child Saturday after receiving a call regarding a possible attempted abduction in the area of North Tehama and West Wood streets.
Miguel Martinez Hernandez, 42, of Orland was arrested due to the outstanding warrant from Colusa County and the case was moved to the Glenn County District Attorney’s Office’s jurisdiction.
At roughly 8 p.m. Saturday two teenage girls, ages 14 and 15, were contacted by a man driving a red car pulled next to them and attempted to convince them to enter his vehicle, said a press release from the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office. Both juveniles told the man to leave them alone and refused to enter the vehicle.
As he began to exit his car, one of the girls started to make a call on her cell phone and the man reentered the vehicle and hastily drove away. One of the teenagers took a photo of the car as he left the scene.
After the vehicle left, one of the juveniles got the attention of a passerby and law enforcement was notified and given a description of the vehicle and the license plate number.
Using the photo, deputies were able to locate the vehicle at St. Monica’s Church at the 400 block of Pacific Street in Willows an hour after the incident. The man associated with the vehicle, the release said, gave the deputies a fake name upon contact, though the deputies determined the man was Hernandez.
“The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office attributes the successful apprehension of the suspect and safety of the public to the quick thinking of the juveniles who used their cell phones to both deter the suspect from any further action and to identify the vehicle,” the release said.
