The Butte County Local Food Network will soon begin its Garden Blitz event, an opportunity for homeowners to invest in raised planter boxes, and for ready hands to help volunteer their day in the garden community.
Planter boxes are available in 4-by-4 foot and 4-by-8 foot sizes for Butte County residents to have installed on their property, and sign up is due by March 29, or when capacity is met, at bclocalfood.org/garden-blitz.
Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available, as well as applications for a scholarship for a four-by-four foot garden box.
Packages cost $185 for a 4-by-4 foot box and $275 for a 4-by-8 foot box, and includes installation, soil, mulch, plants and a hardware cloth liner for critter control.
Install dates are April 6-7 in Chico and Gridley, and April 13-14 in Paradise, Magalia and Oroville.
