CHICO — Longtime Sacramento River staple Scotty’s Landing was served with a red tag violation Tuesday, cited for “no power” and “unsafe electrical.”
The notice, posted on the front of the building by Butte County Code Enforcement, states the building was found to be in violation of California Health and Safety Code and is declared to be substandard, hazardous or unsanitary.

John Scott, 72, owner of the restaurant and bar, said he had closed after the county served the notice.
Scott said he had been dealing with electrical issues for more than one year between PG&E and Butte County; and that the property has been on the market for more than a year.
He said that, now the weather has calmed, he is seeking to fix the building’s roofing, paint and other issues before it is sold, and he hopes to restore the restaurant to its former pride.
“I’m just trying to keep Scotty’s going and find the right person to buy it,” Scott said. “I could have sold it, but I didn’t want to sell it to people that aren’t going to keep it for the people — for Scotty’s.”
Scott said between both he and his father, the restaurant has been running for about 69 years and the surrounding area had businesses going back to 1848 right by the river.
Butte County Supervisor Tod Kimmelshue said that the county is responsible for ensuring safety for its residents and has determined that Scotty’s Landing be closed for the time being.
“Its best at this point in time that Scotty’s is closed for a period of time, and hopefully he gets things fixed and can go back in business,” Kimmelshue said. “It’s an iconic, longtime restaurant establishment, and we’d love to see it stay open. And I hope Mr. Scott can make the needed repairs.”
