LOS GATOS — A motorcycle officer escaped serious injury after he was involved in a vehicle collision while responding to a call Monday morning, according to the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department.
The veteran officer — whose name was not released — was part of a response to an 8:56 a.m. emergency call at 50 University Ave., where the Old Town restaurants and shops are located. Police said that on the way to the plaza, the officer collided with a vehicle about a quarter-mile away where University intersects with Los Gatos-Saratoga Road.
The officer was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and was released later in the day, Lt. J.R. Langer said. The intersection was closed for about 90 minutes while police and cleanup crews either examined the scene or cleared vehicle debris from the roadway.
Police said the driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured and that they do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information for police can contact Lt. Langer at 408-399-5719.
