WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Phone records show that a man was on the phone with AT&T’s roadside assistance when he was fatally shot by a Palm Beach Gardens police officer along an Interstate 95 off-ramp.
The Palm Beach Post (http://pbpo.st/1PRYkTJ ) obtained records of calls made by 31-year-old Corey Jones on his employer-issued cellphone after his vehicle broke down Oct. 18. The man, a public housing inspector and part-time drummer, had just left a gig in nearby Jupiter.
The Post reports that Jones called #HELP at 3:10 a.m. Records show the call ended at 4:03 a.m.
Police say Officer Nouman Raja wasn’t in uniform and was driving an unmarked van when he stopped to investigate around 3:15 a.m.
Raja eventually shot Jones three times. Four agencies, including the FBI, are investigating.
The body of Jones, who is black, was found nearly 100 feet from his SUV.
