Brocavores and more
We’ve always loved word play, and we cheer every time the Oxford Dictionary team adds new entries — say hello to this year’s crop, which includes the mic drop, wine o’clock, awesomesauce and hangry. Now Josh Friedland – whose sly tweets as “Ruth Bourdain” are part-Ruth Reichl, part-Anthony Bourdain’s slyness — has assembled “Eatymology” (Sourcebooks, $12.99). This dictionary of modern gastronomy, which lands on bookstore shelves this week, includes such gems as barista wrist, gastrosexual (“a person, typically male, who … deploys his culinary aptitude to attract romantic partners”) and that cookbook-memoir mashup, the foodoir. We’re thinking it’s the perfect gift for your favorite brocavore (male, food-obssessed uber-hipster).
