Bah, humbug

Actually, not so humbug at all. San Francisco’s Cow Palace goes all twinkle-lit Victorian this holiday season, when the Great Dickens Christmas Fair transforms the 3-acre exhibition hall into Dickensian London, complete with roasting chestnuts, holiday merrymaking and 700 costumed characters. Lords, ladies, street urchins, cancan dancers, bawdy choristers and, of course, bad-tempered “bah humbug” types add to the magic. There’s a Bohemian Absinthe Bar, Mad Sal’s Dockside Ale House and even a Saucy French Postcard Tableaux Revue. The spectacle runs every weekend from Nov. 21 to Dec. 20, plus the Friday after Thanksgiving. Tickets are $12-$30, but you’ll want to bring extra shillings for the chestnuts, absinthe, et al.
