Chico >> A man suffered a slice to the hand and a pop to the head in an “altercation” Tuesday morning in southwest Chico, police said.
Chico police responded about 9:47 a.m. to a report of a possible stabbing in the 1400 block of Almond Street, near Pomona Avenue.
Sgt. Cesar Sandoval said two men who know each other were involved in an altercation during which one man suffered a gash wound between his fingers and lump on his head.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the man was sliced with, but police were investigating the case as an assault with a deadly weapon incident, Sandoval said.
The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, he said.
The possible suspect in the case, described as about 38 years old, was said to have left the area, possibly on a bicycle, Sandoval said. He also could have had a bloodied face.
Police had converged on the possible suspect’s Pomona Avenue home, which is about a five-minute walk from the Almond Street residence, but said he wasn’t home.
“He’s not coming back,” Sandoval said. “He’s refusing to come back, so he’s left the scene. He knows that we’re here and he doesn’t want to talk to us right now.”
Sandoval said it wasn’t yet clear what caused the altercation.
“We’re trying to get a hold of the other half to get his side of the story to try to this together and find a resolution,” he said.
