Reggie Bush defended not only Colin Kaepernick’s coexistencewith the 49ers but also the quarterback’s long-term future.
“He s young and he still has, I think, a long career left in this game. He has a lot of football left to play,” Bush said Tuesday.
“We re all struggling. Nobody is playing well on offense right now. We can all be better. That starts with practice, film study and putting it all together on Sundays.”
Bush, a 10th-year veteran, hasn’t been out there most Sundays because of a nagging calf injury, which emerged healthy — “finally,” he said — after Thursday night’s action in a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
While Bush has remained in the background of the 49ers’ offensive struggles, Kaepernick has been at the forefront, the offensive line’s consistently poor performances.
Bush contracteda Sunday report, by Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, indicating that Kaepernick is “on an island” and has grown disconnectedwith his peers. (Note: Bush trained this offseasonwith Glazer in Hollywood.)
“I see him interact all the time,” Bush said of Kaepernick. “On the football field he s always talking to guys and working with them and talking and communicating. As far as I ve seen, he s doing a great job.
“It s easy to dig up stories and say things when your team is not playing well. The most important thing we can do is focus on us, block out everything outside and try to go out and win this next football game.”
The 49ers (2-5) visit the St. Louis Rams (3-3) on Sunday. Bush had four carries for 21 yards and three receptions for 13 yards last game, when he also failed to catch a third-down pass on the opening series.
