League of Volunteers’ annual Halloween Quarter Auction at Newark Community Center drew a sellout crowd Oct. 25, with many wearing costumes.

The total amount of money raised for the organization’s holiday programs has yet to be tallied. However, Shirley Sisk, League of Volunteers’ executive director, estimated about $10,000 will go toward LOV’s Thanksgiving Day meal program, Holiday Toys Drive and Adopt-a-Family. All 110 tickets were sold for the event, she added.

In addition to a barbecue dinner and live quarter auctions in which everyone had a chance to win something by bidding as little as 25 cents, prizes were up for grabs on the Internet as well. Bidding for auction items on the nonprofit auction website Bidding For Good remains open through Nov. 7. To bid, visit biddingforgood.com/lov.

A year ago, LOV’s Thanksgiving Day meal program served 4,116 dinners. For 2015, Thanksgiving dinner will be open to all from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26 at Newark Pavilion, 6430 Thornton Ave. Meals are also served to the homebound in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley.

LOV provided more than 4,700 toys to Tri-City agencies for their client children last year.
