I am not sure where Marty Piatt (“Editor For A Day,” March 13) got his math of a minimum wage earner getting $83,200 a
year. Sign me up for that job. The way I look at it is if you get $16 an hour that means for a 40-hour week you would get $640 a week times 52 weeks in a year is $33,200. A $20 per hour job is $800 per week times 52 weeks is $41,600. And both of these are before taxes.
Most of the jobs he is talking about are part time. Instead of dare not speculating how many of the newly wealthy Hispanic population is undocumented, go after those corporate fast food employers who hire them and then don’t pay any taxes on them.
I absolutely agree that targeting fast food and not all of the other sectors of workers is wrong. Why is one minimum wage used in one place but not in another. Thatdoesn’t make sense.
