I am ashamed of our city council for turning their backs on seniors in our mobile home parks. When it came to a tough decision, you refused to listen to and stand up for those less fortunate, i.e. veterans, disabled and low-income homeowners .You have sided with big money and greedy landlords. Councilor van Overbeek said it was the hardest decision he ever had to make to not forward this motion to move forward to the full council. Was it really?

City staff complained that a Space Rent Stabilization Ordinance (SRSO) would be too hard to administer and / or would lead to rent control. This ordinance is specific only to 18 mobile home parks in Chico. Obviously, the real issue was money and protecting out-of-town predatory investors that put nothing back into our community.

I find it ironic that it appears that our city council forces seniors to pay off investors debts by citing they have the right to a fair rate of return on their investment. Whatever happened to a fair return on the homeowner’s investments?
