The temperature may be low and chilly these days, but Bidwell always seems to be able to dodge Jack Frost in the mornings and continue with its regular tee time schedule.
The Bidwell Park Women’s Golf Club held a weekly game wherein only nine holes were counted, but the nine holes were not randomly chosen until after the round.
First flight low gross: Shelley Connolly, 87; Low net game: Becky Callas, 29.5. Second flight low gross: Pam Coleman, 98. Game: Sandy Sample, 30.5; Third flight low gross: Joan Patton, 115. Game: Eileen Brownell, 36.5. Closest to pin on No. 4: 1, Callas; 2, Molly Barnum; 3. Connolly.
Canyon Oaks Country Club
The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club game of the week was “Odd Holes,” counting the nine odd numbered holes and subtracting one-half a player’s handicap for the net score.
Robin Smith was low gross with a score of 79. Cathy Edgar came in 7 strokes under her handicap for low net at 65.
Game: 1, tie, Karen Olson and Nancy Dooly, 34.5; 3, tie, Robin Smith and Edgar, 35. Closest to pin on No. 3: 1, Evie Spring; 2, Jakki Thomas; 3, Smith.
The course Superintendent must have used a bucket to cut the holes because there was a total of 14 birdies during the tournament. Olson had 3, Edgar, Smith, Spring and Sally Pearson each had two, and Nancy Vieira and Sue Osterholt had to settle for just one, both on No. 14. Amazing!
Table Mountain Golf Course
The game for the Table Mountain Women’s Golf Club was also “Odd Holes” last week. Sherry Sue took low gross honors with a score of 83. Betty Horton was low net at 74.
First flight game: 1, Liz Hofeling, 36.5; 2, Tracie Cvitkovich, 38, card-off; 3, Lynn Sutherland, 38. Second flight: Pete Powell, 36.5; 2, Liz Coleman, 38; 3, Karen Scurlock, 38.5; Closest to the pin on No. 3, Horton.

With minimal golf news these days it might be an opportune time to look back 9 years to Dec. 2, 2014 for some golf results of the past.
Butte Creek Country Club
The Butte Creek Men’s Golf Club barely beat the rain last Saturday to play their already once postpone annual turkey shoot tournament. The weather man wasn’t totally obliging, but at least it didn’t rain until the last group was in the clubhouse. Ben Pollock was the overall low gross winner with a one-under par score of 71. Pollock also tied Brian McGovern for low net at 71. Other players making the net pay-out and adding a few points to their player-of-the-year standings were: 3, Jim Wilson (72); 4, tie, Brian Jones and Kevin Parrish (73); 6, tie, Eric Blofsky and yours truly (74).
It appears that the Butte Creek Men’s Club 2014 Player-of-the-Year champion will be between Brian McGovern, currently in first place with a 124-point lead over the defending champion, Bob Leckinger. Eric Blofsky is in third place, 150-points behind Leckinger and not to be counted out just yet. The point totals drop off fast after Blofsky. However, because top finishers get double points for the end-of-the-year tournament (360-points for first), and depending on how McGovern and Leckinger fare, Blofsky could conceivably move into first place. Points are earned in ten selected tournaments throughout the year. McGovern and Leckinger are the only members who participated in all ten tournaments. Blofsky played in eight events. The top twenty players will compete this weekend to determine the winner.
Canyon Oak Country Club
Holding true to form, the Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club also held their annual Turkey Trot tournament last week. The four-member teams played one best-ball on the par 5’s, two best-balls on the par 4’s and three best-balls on the par 3’s. Ginny Wolf was low gross over the field. Joan Wagoner was overall low net. The players on the team winning via a card-off, in the game portion were Nancy Evans, Wolf, Linda Arellano and a blind draw. Nancy Dooly, Sally Pearson, Jakki Thomas and a blind draw were the unlucky recipients in the card-off and settled for the second spot. Closest to pin winners on hole No. 11 were: 1, Arellano; 2, Thomas.
