GRIDLEY — A Gridley Unified School District teacher was arrested after complaints from a parent claiming that she had a sexual relationship with one of her students.
Michelle Solis was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor under the age of 16 but was subsequently released on bail before she could be arraigned on the charge. District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Solis will likely return to court in January.

According to a press release issued Monday by the Gridley Police Department, the investigation began in October after a parent came forward with concerns about rumors that explicit pictures were being shared between students. Evidence was eventually gathered by investigators and officers of the photographs. It was during the investigation that Solis was allegedly determined to have had a sexual relationship with a former student as a juvenile. The release said the photos had been circulating both among students and community members.
It was noted in the press release that additional charges may be filed as the investigation uncovers more information. Solis has been a teacher with the district for 20 years, the release said.
The Gridley Police Department is asking that anyone, especially parents and students, who might have information regarding this case to contact the department at 530-846-5670.
“The investigation is ongoing and the Gridley Police Department urges any parents/guardians of any former or current students who have information regarding this investigation and/or information regarding other potential victims to speak up and not be silent,” the release reads. “We as a community need to work in unity for justice in this matter.”
