Richard J. Peifer Obituary

RICHARD J. PEIFER Richard James Peifer born March 16, 1925 passed away peacefully on March 3. Some Chico people might remember him as the owner/publisher/ writer/photographer of the Butte County Bugle, a weekly paper that ran from 1971 to 1981. Others might remember him as an English professor at Butte College for many years. He was also instrumental in organizing the part-time faculty union out there. Still others might remember him as a Chico Yacht club member for several years, several years ago. And last, but certainly not least, you might have met him walking one of many dogs. From the upper park in the 1970s with his Dalmation, Chet Nikovitch until the 2010s with Cooper the Basset hound walking the Sycamore Pool loop, Richard loved all of the furry critters. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margot Peter, step-son Marc Peter and much of his family originally from Pennsylvania. He leaves a step-son Eric Peter (Sharon) and various other family members throughout the country.
