CHICO — Firefighters found one person inside a smoking and burning fifth-wheel recreation vehicle around 1:20 a.m. today and pulled that person out of the trailer.

The person suffered “critical injuries” and was transported to a local hospital, according to a news release from the Chico Fire Department.

Firefighters had to force their way into the burning RV, which was stationary at Chico Trailer Haven on the 1400 block of Nord Avenue.

After rescuing the person inside, firefighters gave emergency medical care and worked quickly to extinguish the flames.

The RV was damaged by smoke and fire, but “firefighters were able to control the fire within minutes of arrival,” according to the release. The fire did not spread to nearby properties and crews remained at the scene for about an hour to completely extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
