Discovery Shoppe Volunteer Kathi Mathiesen, right, was pleased to present a check in the amount of $9,925 to Mary Jensen-Thackery for the Children’s Choir of Chico. Kathi was also their sponsor. The Discovery Shoppe, a non-profit organization in business in Chico since 1959, donates its profits to local charities each year. The funds will be used to fund tuitions to make their choirs accessible for all interested singers with full and partial scholarships to anyone in need. The funds will include the purchase of choral octavos and also for Cantiamo — choir for grades 4-7 — formal performance uniforms. The Discovery Shoppe, located at 315 Flume Street in Chico, has an all-volunteer staff. This year they donated over $137,690 to sixteen local charities.
How to submit a snapshot
Snapshots, reader-submitted photos of community events, are published Monday. They may include service projects, guest speakers at club meetings, awards being presented or kids doing school projects. Just make sure there are people in the photo — no more than 12 — and keep it current.
Send a high-resolution JPG with a paragraph explaining the content of the photo: who (in left-to-right order with last names), what, where, when and why to snapshots@chicoer.com. Non-digital submissions will not be accepted at this time.
We can’t accept photos about businesses, private events or those adorable pet photos.
